When Ella was just three, she was exposed to Pertussis (Whooping Cough) by an unimmunized classmate at school. To test for this, the Doctor's office inserts a long cotton swab into each nostril. The nurse recommended I hold her, keeping her arms from grabbing the swab, as it is uncomfortable. I held her and loved on her. There were some tears, but the nurse got the job done, and of course, she tested positive for Whooping Cough.
Fast forward six months, and I got sick. Ella noticed I was coughing a lot, so she tells me, "Mommy, I will hold you on my lap and hug you when you go to the Doctor to get rid of your cough!"
